From 27 September 2026, new information obligations apply to many online stores. When selling to consumers (B2C), this concerns an EU guarantee notice and – where relevant for a product – additionally a warranty label (GARAN). The basis is EU Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, in the EU Official Journal since 2 October 2025 and directly applicable. Clearly delimited pure B2B stores are, under the interpretation presented, generally not affected.
For shop operators, the key point is: the topic concerns not only legal content, but also the technical and visual integration in the shop. While the guarantee notice is rather general in nature, the warranty label is, according to the described design, product-specific and has to be assigned individually. The GARAN label becomes relevant, under the current interpretation, as soon as a commercial guarantee of at least two years is advertised.
It is also worth noting that there are already indications of a possible online tool from the EU Commission with which the labels could be generated in the future. In addition, it is described as conceivable that some manufacturers may provide suitable warranty labels in a prepared form via dealer portals.
