More Accessible Together
Why You, as a Shop Owner, Are Also in Demand
Accessibility is an important topic – for us at ThemeWare®, for Shopware, and especially for you as a shop owner. Because an accessible online shop is not just a legal or technical goal, but above all a contribution to true digital inclusion.
ThemeWare® Is Accessible – But Not Alone
Both Shopware 6.7 and ThemeWare® 4.0 are innately designed for full accessibility – all accessibility optimizations are firmly integrated into their core. If you’re not ready to upgrade yet, simply use Shopware 6.6 and ThemeWare® 3.7 and enable Shopware’s accessibility feature flag. We supported this flag even before the official release of ThemeWare® 3.7, and with version 3.7.x we continue the journey toward an accessible storefront in Shopware 6.6 together with you. At the same time, the transition to Shopware 6.7 and ThemeWare 4.x moves forward seamlessly – no additional activation is required.
But one thing should be clear: achieving 100 % accessibility in practice can hardly be automated. That’s not due to a lack of commitment, but rather the variety of content, plugins, layouts, and configurations that each shop ultimately brings.
Even If You’re (Not Yet) Required – Accessibility Pays Off
We understand that not every shop owner is currently legally required to ensure accessibility – especially in typical B2C contexts or for smaller businesses. Still, accessibility is not just a “nice-to-have” – it's a clear quality standard. It improves usability for everyone, extends your shop’s reach, and shows that you value digital inclusion.
And because ThemeWare® offers so many configuration options, you have the tools to proactively eliminate barriers – for example, through strong contrasts, scalable font sizes, clear navigation structures, or meaningful alt texts. Many of these improvements are just a few clicks away, but can make a big difference.
You Have Many Options – And With Them Comes Responsibility
ThemeWare® gives you a wide range of customization options: colors, font sizes, CMS layouts, content, contrast settings, and much more. And that’s a good thing – it allows you to tailor your shop to your brand and your audience.
However, this flexibility also means that you need to take an active role in implementing accessibility. Whether text contrast is readable, alt texts are provided for images, or font sizes scale properly – these things don’t happen in code alone; they happen in your day-to-day shop management.
Enhanced Comfort for Your Customers – Accessibility via Toolbar
With our accessibility toolbar, you provide your users with a convenience feature that enables genuine participation in everyday life. Everyone can customise the representation of your shop – for example, font sizes, contrasts, colours, animations or reading guides. Settings are saved directly in the browser and can be reset at any time.
The toolbar can be fully integrated into your shop design and remains visible from the first click to checkout. You decide how and where it is displayed – for example, as a floating button, in the header or discreetly at the side of the page.
To make accessibility even easier for everyone, we offer this feature as a free app (1-click accessibility toolbar) for Shopware. This gives your customers maximum flexibility and sends a clear signal about your commitment to service and inclusion.

We’re Here to Help – Just Tell Us What’s Holding You Back
We regularly receive valuable feedback from customers who share specific ideas for improving accessibility. Many of these suggestions have already been implemented – and thanks to our community, ThemeWare® is becoming more accessible with every release.
If you come across specific issues during your audits or customer feedback, please let us know! The more precise your feedback, the better we can respond – and sometimes even include changes in upcoming updates.
👉 You can send us your suggestions here: https://service.themeware.design/en/feature-request
💡 Tip: If you're actively working on accessibility, we also recommend adding an accessibility statement to your shop. It’s a great way to transparently show what’s already working well – and where there’s still room for improvement. Even if it’s not a legal requirement, it builds trust and shows that you're serious about the issue.
Conclusion: Accessibility Is a Team Effort
We're doing everything we can to provide you with a solid, accessibility-friendly technical foundation. But how accessible your shop truly is also depends on you. Let’s work together to ensure that more people can access what you offer – because accessibility isn’t an add-on. It’s real value for everyone.
Best regards, the ThemeWare® Team
